Legislation of the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has legislation in force governing human gametes (cells) donation. Donation of sperm and oocytes (eggs) is legal.

Sperm and egg donation conditions are governed by Act No. 373/2011 Coll.: Specific Medical Services Act. From the legal prospective, care for infertile patients in the Czech Republic is further directed by several basic principals coming from:

- Constitution, Act No. 1/1993 Coll.

- Charter of Basic Rights and Freedom, Act No. 2/1993 Coll.

- European Convention of Human Rights Protection No. 209/1992 Coll.

- Ethical Codex of the Czech Medical Chamber

Age limit for patients (recipients of donor eggs) is 49.

With the advent of European Union laws, especially the European tissue directive (under which IVF methods and donation of reproductive cells fall under), Reprofit International clinic is required to comply. Beginning 2010, pursuant the donor’s privacy, only information regarding their year of birth and blood type will be provided. Other information (hair/eye colour, height and weight) will not be provided to the patients.
