IVF

Method description:

The entire process of in vitro fertilization begins with a hormonal stimulation of a women causing a higher number of eggs maturing in each ovary. The stimulation progress is monitored by a physician with the help of an ultrasound in several day intervals. Mature eggs are consequently retrieved under general anesthesia via ultrasound guided punctures. The same day that eggs are retrieved, husband or a partner provides a sperm sample. Retrived eggs are then fertilized by prepared sperm and developed embryos are then stored (cultivated) outside of the female’s body. After several days of cultivation (most often 2-5) the best embryos are transferred into to woman’s uterus. Surplus embryos can be frozen and stored for future use.

Whom is IVF treatment method intended:

• Women with identified blocked fallopian tubes
• Women with diagnosed endometriosis
• Women who have problems with releasing eggs (ovulation) and those who were not successful using Clomiphene Citrate
• Couples with severe male factor sterility
• Couples with immunology factor of infertility
• Couples that have been trying to get pregnant for several years and their infertility is unexplained.

Fertilization possibilities of retrieved eggs:

Classic in vitro fertilization
After the eggs are retrieved, under the ideal conditions, similar to those in a human body, partner’s or husband’s treated sperm is added to them. 24 hours later, the embryologist checks under the microscope if fertilization has occurred. Fertilization success rate is between 50 and 70% depending on the sperm and egg quality. This method is used for couples with good sperm analysis and an adequate number of eggs.

Method of a sperm injection into the egg – ICSI
During this manipulation technique, a single sperm is implanted directly into the egg. ICSI is performed in a special instrument – micromanipulator. Fertilization success rate reaches up to 90%.
This method is recommended to couples with poor sperm quality or to couples, where a low number of eggs was retrieved from a woman. For some couples (with a severe disorder of spermatogenesis), the use of this method is imperative.
